The Power Of The Empty Mindmap

Last week my wife and I became the proud parents of a wonderful baby boy. This entire week has been all about not-working, and everything about caring. It completely turned my world and life upside-down, yet also learned me a number of valuable self management lessons :) .

When looking at this new life, I began to wonder… For him his world is all about warmth, sleep and food. It won’t be long before other things become more important.

In my understanding his brain is like a “clean” sheet which will learn things and look at the world. Of course he will learn how to mindmap from me :) .

This made me think… when do most people start mind mapping? More and more people learn how to mindmap in school these days.

When did you first learn about mind mapping?

And did you use it after you learned how to create mindmaps?

As you may know from reading my articles and books and taking my training courses, I believe the opportunity for improving clarity lies in the white space around and between the branches.

My son’s mind is like an empty mindmap. We as parents, his family and everybody around him help to grow his own core mindmap which influence into his habits, his beliefs about the world and what he thinks is possible.

Please take a minute to investigate the core mindmap you have in your head and what your branches with ideas about the world are. Are they fundamental truths? Or are they simply ideas someone wrote in your core mindmap and now you sometimes suffer the consequences?

Take a piece of paper and draw out your own core mindmap which shows you your core beliefs, habits, and “solid” truths… It may shock you to see how much your past experiences and information limit and direct you today and into your future.

Share your thoughts on this below as well on this topic.

Enjoy understanding your core mindmap!
