visual map

I’ve been wondering what time of the year we most enjoy pictures and images that make us feel good and stimulate our ‘visual thinking’.

Yes, I know that the summer time is a great time to enjoy but… I think it is not the best visual mapping and visual thinking time of the year.

After meeting with my team of wise people, we concluded that December is the best visual mapping and thinking time of the year.

Here’s why:

  • December is a time with less daylight and lots of darkness. We tend to use nice lights to create a warm and nice ambiance for ourselves and our loved ones. December is the time where we seek the light and we create the images around us.
  • December is a time to look back at the year that has past and find out what we did, learned, received and shared.
  • December is a time where businesses and individuals look forward to the new year. They make plans and think about what they want to do in the upcoming year.

That is why I believe December should be International Visual Mapping and Visual Thinking Month. This month is the perfect time to look back to what we experienced and did and look forward to what we want to accomplish next year.

There are many, many visual triggers around us that help us think more visual.

We, visual thinkers and mind mappers around the world, deserve this special time of the year because it is the most visual time of the year.

That is why:

DECEMBER IS INTERNATIONAL VISUAL MAPPING MONTH!

Spread the word.

Let your co-workers, friends, family and everybody else know that mind mapping, concept mapping and all other forms of visual mapping deserve special attention in this dark time of the year.

Enjoy this last month of the year. Enjoy your own Visual Mapping Month!

A very interesting question from Brian Tracy: Do you know how often people try something new (on average)?

The answer: Less then once!!!

That’s right. People often don’t even try something new. Most people are saying they want to learn and have exciting jobs. We all want new experiences. But when it comes to it… people just want to keep things the way they are.

I wonder.

What I find most interesting about mapping out your information is that it usually is done on only one piece of paper. This gives you the advantage of viewing all your material at once. You don’t need to flip through your sheets.

Yesterday you created an overview of yourself.

How did that go? Was it difficult? Did it tell you something you might not have seen if you didn’t do that little experiment?

I think you know a little bit more about yourself because of what you did.

Remember, it is not about knowing you can do these experiments. It is all about doing them. Most people know so many things! They know how they can be extremely successful in what they do. But are they? Probably not. The number one reason for that is because the ‘know’ in stead of ‘do’ or apply. Most people want to see the exciting and new stuff, in stead of the proven and familiar they just don’t use :) .

Let’s go back to the experiment. Today we continue with this ‘mapping out ourself’.

Most people look at mindmaps as being a nice picture of some information. They see the art of the map. The end result is an image. The end result is art.

Business people look at mindmaps as a cold/logical approach to visualizing all this information they have to deal with. They create the map using the rules and directions of mind mapping, or more in general visual mapping, and they simply create the map: Just follow the steps and you are fine…

The end result is an overview of the information. Sometimes it looks like a real image, often is it just a diagram of schematic overview.

I truly believe mind mapping is more than following the rules of mind mapping that Mr. Tony Buzan writes about in his books.

Mind mapping wherever, whenever. That sounds really interesting. I want to discuss three ways with you to create mindmaps wherever you are.

Here are first four basic guidelines a tool has to offer me to create mindmaps:

1. Create any type of mindmap
2. Easy to carry around and 24×7 at my disposal
3. Allows easy mind mapping
4. Requires hardly any training to use (when you know about mind mapping)

For me, mobile mind mapping is something that helps me to capture my thoughts and ideas. I am not really looking for a tool that lets me mindmap together with others. When I do that, I want to have a nice big computer screen or white board to use.

Here are three types of mindmap solutions that will help you and me in this.

Hopefully you applied the information from the previous article and you now know much better where you are going and what you can do in life.

This article will expand on that, making it easier to share information in a group. Today we have a look at clear information transfer between you and other.

One of the most heard remarks on mind mapping I get in groups is that it is very difficult to understand exactly what another person means with a map. People create a map based on their thoughts, insights and feelings. Then they share this map… and nobody understands exactly what you mean.
