SHOCKING NEWS: We now have almost ONE million different mindmap software tools, it won’t be long before we are there.

No, of course we don’t have that many different tools, but we are moving in that direction! When I started mind mapping on my computer, there were a perhaps 15 different REAL mind mapping tools available. Things have changed since then…

Is it easier to create a good mindmap because there are so many tools you can use?

I don’t think so. Actually… the real mindmap tools from then are still leaders in this field today. There are 3 reasons why this did not change and will not change… soon.

You are interested in mind mapping and the use of it. It may be that you’ve seen articles about the direction or trends in mind mapping this year or before. Some even propose that mind mapping can even move into ‘main stream’ this year.

I believe mind mapping is still not really where it should be. In fact… evidence supports this. Have a look with me.

To investigate the growth of mind mapping, I used Google trends. It may be safe to assume that the more people search on mindmap related keywords, the more people are interested.
Sure, when we all know how to mindmap we don’t need to google on the keyword, but that’s not the case yet.

Google allows us to go back until 2004. I examined the keyword: MINDMAP, MIND MAPPING, MINDMAPPING.

Do you think the number of searches has grown from 2004 till now for these words?

Today I would like to share with you my #1 key in becoming a successful person. For me, there are only three main keys which help me to become more successful everyday. I love to hear your own advice on becoming (and being) more successful. Do share that!

We spoke about Taking Action before (part 1). We discussed the Interaction with our environment and people (part 2). There is one final ingredient which we did not discuss but which is crucial in becoming more successful.

The funny thing is this. Most people KNOW all three of these ‘rules’ or guidelines already. They know they have to take action and help others. They know about the third guideline. There is however a massive difference between KNOWING and DOING.

If there was no gap between knowing and doing, we would all be successful, famous, have university degrees and have the mental and physical fitness we desire. For instance, we all know that (one of) the biggest ’secrets’ in getting into physical shape is: Eat Less, Exercise More.

Most of us know, some of us start, few of us achieve.

Again, we return in these Mindmap Circle articles to our childhood. Besides the fact that ‘everything was better’ when we were young and time wasn’t going this fast as it is nowadays, there is something else important to learn from when we were young.

Who told you how to start drawing pictures and creating these stories you told yourself and others?

Did you have or need a lot of guidance in playing games with your friends?

I assume you didn’t need advice. Even more so… you probably didn’t even know why you did things and yet… it worked out fine (most of the time).

Then you had to learn how to follow the rules of the people who knew it all. You had to color in between the lines, you could not believe people can fly (this might be a good thing…) and your drawings had to be a clear representation of the ‘real’ world.

“In the beginning there were thoughts and images and words. People put these on cave walls and on paper. This was done to help them solve problems and to preserve information (for themselves and others).

Then we ‘learned’ how to use words only. This were easier to learn and easier to share, so was said.

A man called Tony Buzan studied how successful people from the past and present dealt with their information. From this he created the mindmap system.

Nowadays, most people use mindmaps as a stand-alone system for dealing with information, thoughts and activities. Unfortunately, this is done by using the mindmap as an end goal.

MindmapsUnleashed has a mission: integrating mind mapping into your everyday life, by making it an effective tool.  There’s so much more possible than just creating mindmaps.” – taken from the MindmapsUnleashed Book of Visual Living

401-1Thanks a lot for visiting my website on how to really use mindmaps.

That’s right, another mindmap website/blog… except this one will be different. Sure, we will be discussing how to make mindmaps. But you know what, that’s just one of the many things we will do here.

The goal of this website is to let you experience what mindmaps can do for you in your life.

We will therefore look at mindmaps and how they can be USED in our everyday lives. This may be at work, but also at home or in your studies.

To put it in really simple words: [click to continue…]
