Eastern wisdom tells us that when we mindmap, we should mindmap. OK, I changed it a little bit to make it work for this article.
My point is, when you want to become good at something, you have to do it. Over and over and over and over again.
You have to start with mind mapping and simply follow the rules (stage 1).
Every time you improve your technique, insights and methods. Every time you get better. Mind mapping is no different. The more you do it, the better you become.
After a while, you know how to mindmap. You think of mind mapping as being more than just mind mapping. This is the stage where people think of it as being something that makes them a better person, manage all their information needs, give them perfect overview, etc.
In short, they give mind mapping more credit than it should get. The reason for this is probably that you are too excited about your new skill. This is stage 2.
Then… you get your feet back on the ground. You realize that mind mapping is only what it is: mind mapping. Let us call this stage 3.
This is where you have to get as soon as possible. Understand that mind mapping is a very practical and powerful system for dealing with information, for any purpose you feel like.
Unfortunately, it takes time to get in the third stage. Perhaps you can even call it the first stage! The circle is completed. And even then, you will probably go back to back on the second stage where mind mapping is more than mapping your mind/information.
My advice
To complete the circle yourself, you should start with the 10 step approach for becoming the best mindmapper.
You know, most people want to get the best advice for mastering a certain skill. In 99% of all cases, it just comes down to doing it, improving and moving forward.
If you want to become an experienced driver, would you learn this by reading books about it or getting behind the wheel and practice?
When you want to be the best in what you do, would you get your hands dirty and grow by what you experience, hear and learn?
Of course you would.
Now, the easiest way to become a world class mindmapper is by creating mindmaps. Honestly, I don’t think it matters too much if you do this on paper or on your computer. You have to do it!
Think basics
Move forward

I have a little challenge with the #9 and #10 in your list:
Mindmap for getting ideas
Simply Mindmap
How about:
Mindmap and organize ideas
Mindmap and expand ideas
I guess that would have messed up the perfect number of 10 though.
Perhaps we can change #9 in: Mindmap for organizing and expanding ideas.
This way #10 will remain to be a nice ending of the list
