Did you learn how to remember information?
Probably not. Why should you? We have computers, paper, voice recorders, etc. There just seems to be no good reason why you should remember things.
To my knowledge, more and more people are taught not to remember, but to find information. This is good… only, most people take this into the extreme and don’t remember the most basic things.
I’m baffled when I see people on television who can’t seem to answer questions like:
- What’s the capital of Germany;
- Where was the first atom bomb dropped;
- Who killed J.F. Kennedy (OK, thoughts differ on that last one
).
More and more we seem to forget that we have an amazing tool at our disposal, yet we know and understand less about it every generation.
Yes, I’m talking about our brain.
During my training courses, I teach people how to use their brains more effectively. It is amazing how many people think they can’t remember information. Most people don’t seem to be bothered by this. I only had 2 people in one year who took action before the training and learned how to improve their memory and brain skills.
It is only when people understand a little bit more about their brain that they start to feel more confident in using it. And as you may or may not know… you can increase your brain power really easily, using techniques that are sometimes thousands of years old (AND STILL EFFECTIVE).
Here are two very important reasons why you should really USE your brain more often.
1. Use it or lose it
By now, most people understand that you need to use your brain in order to prevent it from getting worse. The majority of these people know this but don’t act upon it…
So if there is one thing you get from this message: Use your brain!
It’s been said that when you train your brain, you can slow down Alzheimer’s disease. A student of mine told me this is not true. Research shows that you can’t stop Alzheimer’s by using your brain, but you can slow down the effects of it.
Just think of your brain as if this is a muscle. The more you use it, the more it can do and the more effective it is. Would you like to have insufficient muscle power? Probably not!
There is a quick fix
Fortunately, you can remember information much faster than you do now. I’ve seen many people who didn’t believe their brain was capable of remembering more information. It turned out that they were wrong. In 30 minutes in the training and they were (and I quote) ‘totally astonished about the improvement‘.
When you decide you won’t train your brain, you will see that your mind will have more and more problems remembering important information. You’ll blame this on your age (of course) or you say that this was not important enough to be remembered.
Still… age should not pose a problem. Everybody can train their brain and see impressive improvements.
You benefit every day when you invest a few minutes to improve your brain.
2. Your brain can do more than you give it credit for
Some say this century is about exploring the universe, going to the Moon and Mars and live there.
Others believe we should improve our understanding of the most complex machinery known to mankind: our brain.
I think we can do both… we MUST do both!
Understanding what happens out there will help us in understanding ourselves better, and vice versa.
One of the most important areas of our brain we should explore is the subconscious mind. There is so much untapped power available in that part of our mind (is it part of our brain at all???)! We can take giant leaps forward in using and understanding our brain.
My subconscious mind is helping me move forward faster every day.
For instance: my subconscious brain gives me answers and hints to questions and projects I am working. This is because I learned how to focus and use my subconscious mind.
When I discuss this with people, they often can’t believe this is true. You can’t control your subconscious mind! That’s true, but you can use the subconscious mind to your advantage.
This ‘I-can’t’ attitude also applies to speed reading. Most people can’t understand that you can read faster than you can read aloud in your mind. After all, you need to read every word to understand what you read.
Reading expert Hal Wechsler, former business partner of Evelyn Wood (the speed reading guru) knows this and much more about reading than I do. He knows his mind can go through the material at very high speeds. The information is probably not only stored in his conscious mind.
Most people find it very difficult to have faith in their mind/brain. After all, you need to be in ‘control’ all the time
. (like you are in control all the time…)
Understand that your brain is capable of doing so much more than you give it credit for right now.
How to use this right now
This is what you MUST do, when you want to utilize your brain more effectively:
Feed your brain with the right messages.
You are probably not aware of the messages you and others put into your brain. Most of the messages are negative: I can’t do that…, You don’t understand…, etc. This changes not only the way you think, but also the way you perceive the world.
Also, people tend to use the wrong words when ‘commanding’ their brain. They say things like: I am searching for XYZ.
That’s not the smart way of doing things!
You should not be searching for something. Think of your brain as being a ‘dumb’ muscle. It only does what you tell it to do. When you tell it to search for something, the brain thinks this is a game and starts searching.
What it won’t do is FIND what you are looking for!!!
BIG DIFFERENCE!!!
Give your brain the right instructions.
Start doing that today.
Do it NOW.
Enjoy the day!

P.S.: This negative instruction thing is why I never tell/wish my wife to ‘drive safe’ when going to her job.
When you start to ‘drive safe’, you become very careful and you change your perspective.
I now wish her a good journey & successful day (sorry, sounds probably strange in English. It works much better in Dutch
)
