More and more people are facing difficult times because of a global money meltdown. Many people lose their jobs or have to find another job to earn enough money. So I thought it might be interesting to share my thoughts on using a mindmap to find and get a new job.
Fortunately you know how to create a mindmap already. Use this skill to get that new job you are looking for.
Something that helps you in getting your new job is your ability to manage huge amounts of information. You have to create overview and structure in your own personal and business information… TODAY!
As you know, there is no need to feel overwhelmed… your mindmaps are here to assist you. (didn’t I tell you that mindmaps are your personal assistants?)
We have to answer three questions which help you find a new job
- Do you know how to organize your opportunities?
- Can you present yourself in a visual and powerful format on paper?
- How do you mindmap your way through the interview?
Know What Is Out There
There are more and more mindmap tools which allow you to import RSS feeds directly into your mindmap. This is nice when you have RSS feeds which show you the jobs you can apply for.
Simply open your mindmap and update it. You now have all the jobs you can apply for.
This saves you time in surfing the Internet. You can find more jobs in less time.
The Personal Elevator Mindmap
Most people are no expert in their field (this is by definition I assume
). This means you have to be different, yet professional. You need to impress but not intimidate.
Tough times as for drastic measures.
Yes, that’s right… you need to create a mindmap of who you are as a (business) professional.
Be bold. Do something most other people won’t do. Don’t just create your personal mindmap. Create one and send it to your future employer.
The moment you can show your future boss who you are, in less than one minute, you have a change of getting that interview.
A mindmap is a perfect tool because:
- Everything is presented on one sheet (it is concise)
- You present yourself in full color, instead of black on white (you stand out)
Make sure you personalize the map when you send it to a company.
- add the company logo
- the content must fit the job and the company
- explain (or even better show) why you are the person for this job.
You are no longer bound to use words only.
You do have to understand that the map MUST be clear and easy to understand. The receiving party must be able to understand immediately what the map is all about. No time for ambiguity.
Also, don’t use too many (bright) colors. Be professional!
Of course this all depends on the company you are sending the map to…
Map Your Way Through Your Interview
The map you use during your interview is created well before your interview (of course). Preparation determines 90% of your success.
Add the following information to this map:
- date of the interview
- company information – add key information in a small map
- who you will speak with
- your questions
- your information
Make sure you create a clear map. Don’t be shy to use it during the conversation. The ‘other’ party should see how you manage the information.
I would suggest you use only one color to add information to the map. You are there as a professional and you don’t want to look like a person who likes to draw
.
You might even explain mind mapping when you see the opportunity. Or you create an overview of the information you receive about the company!
I am sure your future colleague will be impressed by the way you can summarize and overview information.
Let me know how this helps you in moving forward as a business professional!
