Information is around us in abundance.
Today I want to make you aware of something very basic yet forgotten by most people who mindmap. Imagine your brain is like the Internet. Of course the brain is much more complex and capable of doing much more. Still, the resemblance is good enough now.
The interesting idea of connecting information using a web based system was created by Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee. He wanted to give researchers the opportunity to connect information using hyperlinks. There are many websites with pages and information on these pages.
In a way, this is what we do in a mindmap. We store information on a certain (specific) topic in a mindmap. Where we before used sentences, we now use words. Where we used paragraphs, pages or chapters, we now use a branch.
The Internet offers us something more interesting. It connects information from different sources with each other. Websites, pages and even words can have links to other pieces of information anywhere around the world/web.
In mind mapping, we do this by using hyperlinks or relationship lines.
Here is something important for you to consider:
How many websites do you visit online that have NO LINKS to other websites?
I guess you don’t visit these websites because they are not connected with the rest of the content.
Here’s my thought on mind mapping your information.
Always keep in mind that information separated from the rest can not exist or even be used. To make your overview more valuable, you have to connect the information in every map to other information. This will make it more valuable.
It will work for you this way.
