Each one of use is able to do amazing things. Some do this by being the best mom for their kids, others run multi million dollar companies improving the way people all over the world live.
We can all improve our lives. The key to doing this is to change the way we view the world and change the way we think. I firmly believe that we all have to potential to live a life which now may seem to be out of our reach.
For me getting where I want to go, is by creating balance in my own thoughts, life and environment by using visual thinking and visual mapping. I do this by showing people more practical ways of looking at information and the world. Once you can see things more clear, you will be able to make better decisions and understand yourself and your life better.
Don’t get me wrong. This is method is not a new-age kind of thing where we all sit down and chant (you can if you want to
).
I create lasting results so I have to take targeted ACTION. I have to actively work on the way I perceive things, people, situations, etc.
By doing this on a ongoing basis, it will become easier, often even effortless! After all… you moved from being unconscious incompetence to unconscious competence. I probably don’t have to explain that theory to you. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_stages_of_competence - opens in new window)
Again, it all starts by understanding that you can (or even have to) change in order to change yourself and your life. I love the following quote:
If You Do What You Did, You Get What You Got
(also look at this rime - opens in new window)
(TIP: Write the quote on a piece of paper or on your hand. Today look at the quote and think about what you do that moment)
People and their customs
When I look at people I hang out with, this is often the pattern they follow:
Weekdays: get up, go to work, get back home, have dinner, watch tv, go to sleep
Weekend: sleep late, go sporting (perhaps), do some shopping, eat, watch TV, sleep
And then the cycle starts all over again.
Again, if you do what you did, you probably get what you got. Change what you did and you may even wound up with something new…
Be consistent in what you do. Minor changes over a longer period of time are much better for you, your brain & body and your life. When changing your life, remember compound interest and habits.
Habits help you in this because it will be easier to continue doing it once it is a habit. People say it takes about 21 days to form a new habit. My advice: start today. Create a map/overview of who you want to be in 1 month, 1 year and 10 years (perhaps 25 years!).
Know where you are going. If you do that, you will be able to make better decisions which will bring you closer towards your goal.
The second thing is compound interest. When you deposit a small amount every day (you invest/take action), you will see huge returns in time! Don’t withdraw your money (investment) or do something which negatively influences your balance. This will set you back!
Create the habit of doing the right thing.
Use the map to guide you through your life.
Doing that will sky rocket your returns. Be sure that you keep your eye on the prize (your long term goal). This is where your visual map will be of priceless value.
Your map is your guide.
Take small steps forward everyday to create the long term positive improvements.
